Should You Color Your Hair?

Ensure a great color with quality hair care.

Quality hair care will ensure a great color.

One of the easiest ways to transform your look is to change up your hair. For some, this means a hair cut, extensions, a wig or a brand new hair color, but should you color your hair? With all the information going around about how dyes affect your hair, you may be worried about what coloring will do to your hair. Let’s talk about the hair dying process and what effects it can have.

What’s in a Strand?

First, we need to talk about your hair itself. If you’re using quality hair care, your hair will be nice and healthy so there shouldn’t be much damage to your strands. Each strand is made up of a protein called keratin, which is also what your fingernails are made of. Keratin is arranged in overlapping scales to form each hair strand, making the hair flexible.

Each hair strand has a cuticle, which is the protective outer layer. This actually determines how healthy and shiny your hair looks so if you’ve been using your sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, your cuticle will be in top shape! If you haven’t been using quality sulfate free shampoo, your cuticle could be raised, making your hair seem dry and damaged.

Hair Dyes

Color your hair while using a sulfate free shampoo.

Use sulfate free shampoo when you color your hair.

Now that we know more about hair (and the importance of quality hair care!) let’s talk about the dying process. There are a few types of hair color we need to look at. Permanent, semi-permanent and demi-permanent hair color all have different ingredients, processes and effects on your hair.

  • Permanent: Permanent hair color is a two-step process. This is without a doubt the most damaging of the options because it forces your cuticle open to let the color in. First, ammonia is applied. This chemical causes the cuticle to open up in order to let the dye into your hair. Then, peroxide is used to penetrate the hair and remove your existing hair color. Once this process is finished, you’ll have a brand new hair color! You’ll then use a conditioner to close the cuticle again in order to seal the color inside. This process is the one used in average salon color treatments and most box hair color you buy at the supermarket or drugstore. It is important you use sulfate free shampoo and conditioner in order to preserve the color after you dye it!
  • Semi-Permanent: This process is much gentler and usually lasts about a month. This option doesn’t involve ammonia or peroxide, instead adding tiny molecules of color to your hair cuticle without dramatically changing the color. The color will fade after a few shampoos so using a sulfate free shampoo is important in order to make your new color last.
  • Demi-Permanent: This type of dye lasts longer than semi and contains no ammonia but does use a small amount of peroxide. The process coats each strand with large color molecules, helping it last longer than semi-permanent. Quality hair care and sulfate free shampoo and conditioner will help your color last even longer.

Does dying damage your hair? When done in moderation, no. However, if you dye your hair too often, it can and will result in damaged and dry hair, which will be extremely difficult to repair. If you’re looking to dye your hair, make sure it’s the color you want to cut back on dying too often!

If you want to change your hair color without damage, contact us. Our quality hair care will keep your hair looking healthy and beautiful long after you color!

How to Care for Your Curly Hair, Extensions and Wigs

Learn how to handle curly hair with quality hair care products.

Quality hair care is a must with curly hair.

Whether your hair is naturally curly or you achieve the look with the use of hair extensions and wigs, learning how to properly care for it is essential. Without quality hair care, curly hair can become frizzy and may be difficult to style. In addition to using a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, as well as a leave in conditioner, these tips will help you manage your hair so it always looks great.

Washing

Taking care of your curly hair all starts with the use of a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner to keep it clean and healthy. Curly hair has a tendency to dry out easily, which means you only need to wash it a few times a week to keep it in good condition. When you do wash your hair, make sure you massage the scalp well to remove dirt and oils that can slow hair growth.

Moisturize

Due to the issues of drying out, moisturizing is a critical element of quality hair care. A good leave in conditioner can be a great way to lend your hair the moisture it needs to be healthy and frizz-free. While this type of conditioner is great for regular use, occasionally using a deep conditioner or oil treatment can help improve the health of your curly hair.

Drying

Another common difficulty in taking care of your curly hair is drying. Unlike straight hair, it’s best not to rub your hair vigorously. Instead, use a soft cotton t-shirt or towel to pat your hair dry and gently squeeze out excess moisture. Don’t use a hair dryer; allow your hair to air dry. Avoid brushing wet curls or running your fingers through them to prevent frizz. If you must use a blow dryer, use a diffuser and dry your hair from the underside.

Other Tips

To keep your hair looking great and cooperating with your styling needs, avoid using a brush. Only comb through your hair with a wide-toothed comb. It’s also important to avoid using heat whenever possible and never use hairsprays or mousse because of the high alcohol content, which can dry out your hair further and make it crunchy.

Curly hair can be beautiful, but it can also be difficult to manage. It doesn’t matter if your hair is naturally curly or you have chosen curly hair extensions or wigs to create the look you want. Quality hair care is required to ensure your hair remains healthy and in good condition. Using a good sulfate free shampoo and conditioner is an absolute necessity to keep your hair moisturized and frizz-free.

If you’re looking for quality hair products to keep your curly hair healthy and free of frizz, contact us. We have created a formula that provides the moisture and care your curly hair requires.

How Much Damage Can the Sun Really Do to Your Hair?

Prevent sun damage with quality hair care.

Quality hair care can prevent sun damage.

It’s not uncommon for people to be concerned about the negative effects of the sun on their skin, but have you thought about sun protection for your hair? If you haven’t, you could be putting your hair at risk every time you step out your door. Quality hair care that includes a protective hair serum can help reduce the amount of damage that occurs due to sun exposure.

How Much Damage Is Possible?

Before exploring the solutions to sun damage for your ‘do, it’s important to learn about what types of damage you could expect without using proper sun protection for hair. The sun’s rays can cause your hair to dry out and become brittle, increasing the risk of breakage as you brush and style your hair. Your weakened hair strands can also be more susceptible to split ends as a result of prolonged sun exposure. If your hair is chemically treated, such as bleached, dyed or permed, or if use hot styling tools, your hair could be at an even greater risk of harm. The sun may even cause treated hair to take on a yellowish tinge.

What Can You Do?

Now that you understand the effects that can occur when unprotected hair is exposed to the sun, it’s important to invest in quality hair care products designed to protect your hair. A protective hair serum as part of your regular hair care routine will create a barrier around every strand to slow down the negative effects of the sun. In addition, there are other hair products that can create this protective layer. Look for products that list a UV protector on the label.

In addition to using the right quality hair care products to protect your hair from the sun, there are other things you can do. Wearing a hat will help keep the sun off your hair, especially if you put your hair up underneath the cap. If you can avoid being in the sun, do so. The best time to stay indoors is between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. when the rays of the sun are the strongest. In some cases, applying a small amount of sunscreen to your scalp and hair can also help, especially if you don’t have any other UV protectant hair products.

When it comes to sun protection for your hair, it’s just as important to keep your hair protected as it is to apply sunscreen to your skin. Without proper care for your hair, exposure to the sun can cause a lot of damage, making it more difficult to get the healthy, beautiful hair you want. Using a protective hair serum as part of your hair care routine will ensure your hair is at a decreased risk of damage.

How to Prep Your Hair for Summer Braids

Ensure a beautiful braid with quality hair care.

Quality hair care ensures a beautiful braid.

Braids are a great way to keep cool this summer, especially if you’re wearing longer hair extensions. However, instead of just throwing your hair up into a braid before you head out for fun in the sun, it’s important to go through a quality hair care routine, such as using sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. When you properly prep your hair before braiding it, you will reduce breakage and other damage associated with styling your hair.

Clean Your Hair

The first step in quality hair care is to clean it thoroughly to ensure your hair is properly moisturized and healthy. A sulfate free shampoo and conditioner can be your best option, especially if you are wearing hair extensions. The shampoo will safely remove excess oils, dirt and residue from other styling products. Following up with a quality conditioner will seal the moisture into your hair and keep it healthy and shiny, regardless of how you style it. The smooth conditioner can also help tame any flyaways that are common when you braid your hair.

Dry It Thoroughly

A braid can be created with hair extensions.

Hair extensions look great in a braid.

Braiding wet hair can slow down the drying process and can cause crimps in your hair. This process can damage your hair, especially if you have hair extensions. For this reason, it’s best to make sure your hair is thoroughly dry before you attempt to braid it. Some women prefer using a blow dryer to dry their hair more quickly, but keep in mind this can cause your hair to frizz, which will lead to an untidy braid. However, this is sometimes the preferred look. If you have the time, allowing your hair to dry naturally can be a better alternative.

Detangle Your Hair

As you braid, the last thing you want is to encounter tangles that make it difficult to complete the desired style. To remove the tangles from your hair without pulling, use a wide-toothed comb or a hair brush. Move from the root of your hair to the tip. The goal is to make your hair as smooth as possible. Smooth hair will braid well and will reduce the amount of hair that escapes your braid. In addition, tangle-free hair won’t break or split as a result of braiding.

Braids can be a great way to keep your longer hair off your neck and out of your face when the temperatures rise. Along with quality hair care and a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, you can keep your hair looking great, even if you use hair extensions. With the right care, you can easily braid your hair without putting it at risk for damage.

If you are looking for the best sulfate free shampoo and conditioner to keep your hair looking great while you braid it, contact us. We carry a full line of quality hair care products for every need.

Popular Short Styles for Summer

Exercise quality hair care for shorter styles.

Short styles require quality hair care too.

With the heat of summer, long hair isn’t always as appealing, making shorter hair a popular trend. Shorter styles are easy to maintain in the summer months and help keep you cooler too. With quality hair care, such as sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, along with sun protection for hair, you will be sporting a cute new do that won’t have you trying to find ways to tie your hair back.

Asymmetrical Side Sweep

If you’re looking for a more feminine twist to your short hair, an asymmetrical side sweep can be the ideal option. There are several ways to accomplish this style. Jennifer Hudson sports this style with her hair short in the back and longer in the front with an extreme side part. Peta Murgatroyd has her hair cut in a similar way. With the use of a few quality hair care products and a flat iron, you can achieve the same style.

Layered Crop

Use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner for beautiful hair.

Sulfate free shampoo and conditioner help keep your hair looking great.

Just because you’re interested in a shorter hair cut doesn’t mean you have to stick to one length. The layered look can create a beautiful hair style that complements just about any summer outfit. This style is extremely versatile so you can dress it up or dress it down. A smoothing cream and hair straightener can help you smooth out the look.

Undercut Crop

Not everyone wants to deal with any length of hair during the hottest months of the year. If this describes you, the undercut crop can be the perfect style. This short hair style may seem like a boy’s cut, but it can be feminized to achieve a great look for women. Miley Cyrus has rocked this hair style for several years now, while Jennifer Hudson has a slightly longer version that gives her versatility with the help of a few styling products.

Feminine Bob

Sun protection for your hair is essential.

Don’t forget about sun protection for your hair.

Bobs are among the oldest short hair styles for women. This slightly longer style brings with it many options for styling, including the use of headbands or barrettes. You can also choose to wear this hair style down without feeling too warm during the hot summer months or feeling like you need to sweep your hair up before you leave the house. However, some women love to add some curl or wave to their bob to ensure a more feminine look. Celebrities like Coco Rocha and Amy Newbold have kept this style on-trend.

Quality hair care is a must at any time of the year, regardless of the length of your hair. However, as the weather heats up, it may be time to consider sporting a shorter do to keep you cooler without worrying about a lot of styling. These hair styles require little care beyond using a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner and sun protection for hair, allowing you to get up and go, regardless of where you’re going.

If you’re looking for the right hair care products to care for your short haircut, contact us. We carry a vast selection of sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, along with other products.

Beautiful Braided Wedding Hair

Consider sulfate free shampoo and conditioner for beautiful hair.

Sulfate free shampoo and conditioner can make your hair look great.

Braids are often considered a casual hair style, but you can easily transform braided hair into an amazing wedding style everyone will envy. With the help of hair extensions, these braided hair styles can take a traditional wedding style and add a romantic twist that will make your wedding day even more special. These options will make a great alternative to the wedding styles you’re used to seeing.

A Braided Bun

Buns are a common choice for brides because it elegantly pulls the hair out of the face and works well under veils and other popular headwear for brides. Instead of a traditional bun, however, brides can dress up this hair style by braiding the hair before coiling it into a romantic bun. Leaving a few curls around the face can complete the look and make every bride a vision for her special day.

A Loose Braid

Exercise quality hair care for the perfect wedding style.

Quality hair care will make your braids shine.

A simple braid may seem plain, but you can still use this as a great option for wearing your hair beneath your veil. Instead of braiding your hair tightly, try a looser braid secured at the nape of your neck. While this won’t keep all of your hair secured into the braid, any hair that escapes can be styled in any way you prefer. When you exercise quality hair care with a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner, your hair will look amazing in this style.

A Braid Crown

Many brides are choosing a tiara or a floral crown to adorn their heads rather than a more traditional veil. If you are looking for a different way to make these hair pieces pop, consider creating a crown from your hair first. Braiding your hair and wrapping it around your head, secured with hair pins, will create the perfect foundation for anchoring a floral wreath or tiara to the top of your head. Consider weaving a ribbon into this hair style.

An Inverted Braid with Top Knot

Create fuller braids with hair extensions.

Hair extensions can create fuller braids.

Another popular hair style for brides is the top knot because it nestles beautifully within a tiara or floral wreath. However, if you want to mix things up and create a unique look, run an inverted braid from the nape of your neck up toward the bottom of the top knot. This is perfect for brides who aren’t using a veil and can create a fun look that stands out.

Flower Child Braids

If you look back at hair styles of the 60s, you’ll notice a lot of braids wrapped from the front of the head, around to the nape of the neck. These were often accented with flowers. Today, this is a great option for brides who want to use flowers as their hair pieces. This look is perfect for more casual affairs.

Finding the perfect wedding hair style can be stressful. There are many choices, which can make the decision even more difficult. Some of these styles are more casual, while others are just as romantic and elegant as other traditional bridal styles. When you use a sulfate free shampoo and conditioner on your hair extensions before your wedding, any style you choose will be perfect.

Great Groom and Groomsman Styles

The men in your wedding party can look great with quality hair care.

With quality hair care, the men in your wedding party can look great.

The bride is often the main focus when planning a wedding, but this doesn’t mean the groom and his groomsmen don’t want to look their best as well. Men may not make an appointment with the barber for the big day, but there are things they can do to make sure their hair looks great too. Quality hair care with a hydrating shampoo that is free of sulfates will ensure you have a hairstyle you can be proud of for your wedding day.

Prepare Before the Wedding Day

There’s nothing worse than scrambling around the day or week before the wedding to make sure everything is just right. There are plenty of things that have to wait until this time period, but your hair isn’t one of them. Several months before the wedding, make sure you switch to a sulfate free shampoo to strip your hair of the damaging chemicals found in other shampoos.  A quality  will help restore your hair to great condition. If you plan to get a haircut, schedule it for no less than a week prior to your wedding. This will allow any potential mistakes time to grow out a bit.

Choose the Right Hair Products

In addition to quality hair care, you will need to choose hair products to use to create the perfect groom and groomsman styles. Instead of choosing a product that creates a wet or slicked look, choose a styling product that creates a matte finish. A slicked hairdo may look great on you in person, but in photographs, the flash will reflect off your hair and won’t look as sleek. The goal is to make your hair look as natural as possible.

Create the Ideal Hairstyle

Your hairstyle is a reflection of your personality. When you’re preparing for the big day, creating the perfect hairstyle may not feel like a top priority, but it should be. For instance, one popular wedding hairstyle involves cropping the sides short and leaving your hair a little longer on the top. With a little styling gel, you can sweep your hair to the side or back to complete the look. These days, a slightly messy hairdo can be the perfect way to style your hair before you walk down the aisle. If you prefer longer hair, using a matte hair product to sweep your hair away from your face will provide a finished appearance that isn’t overdone.

Whether you’re preparing to walk down the aisle or you’re standing up with a good friend or close family member, it’s important to make sure every aspect of your appearance is just right. This includes your hair. It all starts with quality hair care with a sulfate free shampoo and ends with the hairstyle you choose to complement your look and create a perfect day.

If you’re looking for the best hydrating shampoo for your wedding day look, contact us. We carry a full selection of quality hair products designed for healthy hair for men and women.

What Happens If Your Remy Hair Extensions Get Wet?

Take special care of shiny hair extensions when wet.

Shiny hair extensions need special care when wet.

Adding shiny hair extensions is the ideal way to quickly change the look of your hair, but do you know how to care for hair extensions? Many people are under the impression you can’t get them wet for fear of ruining them. However, with quality hair care, you know what to do if your hair extensions accidentally get wet and how to care for them in between.

Pat Excess Moisture Out

One of the issues with accidentally getting your shiny hair extensions wet, such as during a downpour or by swimming in a pool without a swim cap, is how much water your hair extensions may absorb. To ensure your hair extensions dry fully, you first need to use a towel to pat out the extra moisture. Don’t rub your hair with the towel because it will create tangles, which can quickly loosen the extensions.

Remove the Tangles

After removing the excess moisture from your hair, the next step in your quality hair care routine is removing the tangles. However, you can’t just pull a brush or comb through the tangles and expect your extensions to hold up. Instead, you need to carefully use your fingers to eliminate the tangles and ensure your hair extensions remain firmly attached to your natural hair.

Is Air Drying Best?

When wet, you need to know how to care for hair extensions.

Learn how to care for hair extensions when wet.

Air drying is almost always the best solution when it comes to caring for your hair extensions. Excessive heat can cause damage to your hair extensions, especially if they are attached with glue. However, not everyone can take this approach, especially if they need to fix their hair and go out to dinner or on a date. In these situations, blow drying can be an effective method of drying your shiny hair extensions.

How to Properly Blow Dry

Before you apply heat to your hair extensions, it’s necessary to use a hair product designed specifically for hair extensions. This will help protect them from drying out. Using a diffuser will help keep heat to a minimum to protect your extensions. In addition, you should make sure the hair dryer is set to a low-heat, low-speed setting. This will keep your extensions looking great and ensure they don’t become too wet.

There are many situations where your shiny hair extensions may get wet and you need to dry them. While it’s natural to reach for the blow dryer and use it on high heat until your hair is dry, this shouldn’t be your first resort. Instead, it’s best to carefully remove any excess moisture and then gently untangle the hair so your extensions don’t pull loose. You can then either air dry your hair or use your blow dryer on a low setting to ensure your extensions are as dry as possible.
